WCPE FM - A Classical Respite From All The Noise
October 22nd, 2008 Categories: Local Businesses, Odds and Ends

Do you feel like there is just too much noise in your world sometimes? I certainly do. And sometimes I just want to turn it off. Take a peaceful little break.
For instance, I have not listened to the news for two days. Let’s just call it doom and gloom overload. I really don’t need another so called expert telling me how bad our economy is, or who they think I should vote for. I especially don’t need to hear or see a panel of experts arguing and talking all over each other trying to convince me that their opinion is the correct one to have.
If what I just described is you, try tuning to WCPE FM at 89.7 on your radio dial. WCPE broadcasts commercial free classical music 24 hours a day right here in Wake Forest. And an added bonus is they do not do the news! That’s right. Just beautiful classical music all day without commercials or news broadcasts. Ahhh, the answer to the noise problem!
In addition to the local Wake Forest, NC broadcast on 89.7 FM, WCPE is heard around the world on their internet stream. You can tune in from their website at www.theclassicalstation.org. I recommend WCPE to all of my clients relocating to Wake Forest, or nearby Raleigh or Cary. And I get lots of thank yous for turning newcomers on to such a great treasure.
Even if classical music isn’t your thing, I would like to encourage you to give WCPE a try. My wife wasn’t particularly interested at first, but WCPE has definitely grown on her. We listen together quite often now. This music allows you to enjoy conversation with someone while filling the background with wonderful soothing sounds. Be warned though, WCPE’s music is highly addictive!
And as you begin to listen, you will be amazed at how many tunes you will recognize. Great classical music has filled the soundtracks of many famous movies and makes up the theme songs of tons of events (the Olympics, etc) and even some commercials (the beef commercial). So you can have all this familiarity without the noise (think commercials) that sometimes accompanies these great musical pieces.
You are probably wondering how WCPE does all this without the support of commercial sponsors. They do it with a wonderful staff of volunteers and the financial contributions of listeners all over the world. Even the voices of the mostly volunteer announcers is soothing and relaxing. If you tune in and find WCPE to be a welcome relief from all the noise that surrounds all of us, please consider supporting what they do. No gift is too small or too large.

Best FREE WiFi Coffee and Bagels in Wake Forest
October 16th, 2008 Categories: Local Businesses, Wake Forest

Whenever I’m out and about in Wake Forest and need a place to grab a bite and use my laptop, Bruegger’s is the first place I think of. The staff is friendly, the food and coffee are great, and the WiFi works flawlessly. What more could you ask for?
The atmosphere is nice too. Clean tables, fresh decor… it just feels comfortable. And there’s plenty of inside and outside seating.
Bruegger’s is located in The Wakefield Commons shopping center near the Marquee Cinemas. It technically has a Raleigh address, but is located where most locals would consider to be Wake Forest.

Home Decorating Bonaza - Durant Mirrors And More - Much More!
October 7th, 2008 Categories: Buying a Home, Local Businesses

If you are relocating to the Raleigh area (or moving locally for that matter) and need to decorate your new home, I have just the place for you. You owe it to yourself to check out Durant Mirrors And More.
I had one of those rare moments this past Saturday. You know. That kind of moment where you walk into a store and are immediately struck by the uniqueness of their merchandise and the value their prices represent. Durant Mirrors And More is just this kind of store.
My wife and I moved about 3 months ago and have spent a good deal of our spare time looking for just the right things to decorate our new home. We have been able to find inexpensive items that are low quality, and expensive items that are high quality, but we had yet to find that elusive combination of high quality and good price that we refer to as high value. Until last Saturday, that is.
Durant Mirrors And More is awesome. The selection is the best we have seen anywhere. Unique items that will make our home (and yours too) look like it was decorated by professionals. And the prices are more than fair. I’m telling you that this is a really special place that will make decorating your new Raleigh area home fun and affordable.
And the main thing you need to know about the name is the “More” part. Yes, they certainly have a large selection of mirrors. They also have a very impresive inventory of wall hangings, pictures, furniture, and just about anything you could possible need to decorate your home.
By the way, we learned about Durant Mirrors And More when we visited a multi-million dollar Parade home and picked up a brochure. Think about that. Here is a home decorating store that outfitted an expensive showplace home, and you and I can easily afford to put these same items in our homes.
Hurry on down to Durant Mirrors And More and see Angie or Janet for all your decorating needs. Be sure to mention that you heard about them here on Raleigh Real Estate Talk.

Tires and Top Notch Service From Somebody You Can Trust
September 27th, 2007 Categories: Local Businesses
Whenever I help someone relocate to the Raleigh area, they come here with broken networks. What I mean is that they are leaving their network of service providers behind. Who should they go to for dry cleaning, hair cuts, pet supplies, auto service, an so on?
Buying a new home and moving can be hard enough, but when you are coming to a place that is totally unfamiliar, it complicates matters. Part of my job as their Realtor is to help them reestablish and repair those broken networks. Once we close on a client’s home, many times they realize that they don’t know who to go to for the simplest day-to-day needs.
For that reason, I have established a page on my site to help my real estate clients find service providers to supply their needs. And one company that is proudly on that list is Duty Tire, in North Raleigh.
I was referred to Duty Tire about ten years ago by a friend. Hey folks, this referral thing really works! If you want to know who’s good at something, ask for a referral. My experiences with Duty Tire have always been positive and over the years I have developed a real sense of trust for what they do for me and my family.
As soon as you walk in, you will probably be greeted by David Duty, the manager of the North Raleigh store. David is a real down to earth guy who genuinely wants to do the right thing for his customers. I have had several occasions to discover this first hand.
Last year my wife bought a new car and on day 5 she picked up a huge nail in one of the tires. Since it was brand new, she of course went back to the dealer for advice. They told her that the nail was too close to the side and the tire would have to be replaced. They also told her it would cost over $200 and would take 3–5 days to for them to get the tire.
Feeling that this might not be the best alternative, she called David. He asked her to bring the car by and within minutes was patching the tire for about $15. David assured her that he patched many tires every day with nails in the same location relative to the sidewall and that they were never a problem.
To make his point, he went on to say that he would do the same even if it were his wife’s or daughter’s tire. He was completely confident that the tire did not need to be replaced. And he was right… 14 months later the tire is just fine, and we are over $200 better off.
Just for the heck of it, I asked David to price a replacement tire. His price was $157 and he could get the tire in 24 hours. Quite a different story, huh? I could go on and on about all the nails Duty Tire has remove for me after driving around new construction homes. And how every time he has been able to fit me in without any notice and only charged a very modest fee. I think you get the point.
The next time you need tires or minor mechanical work for your car, stop by and see David, in North Raleigh, or his brother Steve, in the South Raleigh location. Be sure to tell them I sent you.

Peanut Roaster is a Hit With Raleigh Home Buyers
August 28th, 2007 Categories: Local Businesses
I started a tradition several years ago of giving a gift basket from The Peanut Roaster to every client who buys or sells a home with me in the Raleigh area. It has proven to be a wise choice that has added value to my relationships with my Raleigh real estate clients.
When I first started out as a Raleigh area Realtor I tried several various ideas for expressing my thanks to clients at closing. I’ve tried everything from delivering pizza on moving day to leaving a bucket of various household items at the house as a surprise for the client when they arrive at their new home after closing. About two years ago I discovered the ultimate gift for this purpose. A beautiful basket full of every conceivable flavor of North Carolina grown peanuts that you can imagine.
Many of my clients are relocating to Raleigh and the gift basket from The Peanut Roaster gives them a taste of something unique to the area. Something they probably have not previously had the opportunity to experience. Many of the products are part of the Goodness Grows in NC program. Plus, when my clients arrive at their new Raleigh home after closing they typically don’t have a well stocked refrigerator waiting for them. Heck, many of them don’t even have a refrigerator for a few days!
Besides delivering a great product for me and my Raleigh home buyers, the customer service is outstanding too. Joyce Holloway at the North Raleigh location is just awesome. She makes the whole process so easy for me. When I first decided to start using The Peanut Roaster for move in gifts, Joyce sat down with me to design a standard basket that I could reorder whenever I had a closing. Now I just call and tell her how many baskets I need and they are ready when I stop by to pick them up.
The basket I ended up with is just perfect for the occasion. Joyce took a house shaped wire basket and filled it with a wonderful variety of flavored peanuts and related items. The presentation is impressive and the contents are delicious. Now when a client moves into their new Raleigh home they have gourmet snack food to tide them over until the house is in order!
I’ve received lots of very nice thank you notes for the baskets over the years. Several people have contacted me to find out where to get refills. One lady wrote me a note a couple of weeks after closing to let me know she was now addicted to the barbecue flavored peanuts. Many of my clients who are in businesses that have a need for thank you gifts have contacted me to find out where to order baskets for their clients.
Need a unique gift basket that people will appreciate and remember? Stop by The Peanut Roaster and tell Joyce I sent you!
